John Robert Anczarski

John Robert Anczarski, 19, of 410 Zion Grove Road, Ringtown, died Tuesday from injuries suffered when he was struck by a car Monday in New Laguna, N.M., while biking cross-country as a member of "The Pink Pedal."

John was born in Pottsville on Aug. 16, 1990, the son of John Joseph and Joyce Ann Boner Anczarski of Ringtown. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Ringtown and enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and skiing.

In November 2006, Johnny rose to the rank of Eagle Scout, with his project being the installation of the flag pole at the Ringtown American Legion Home, Post 298, on West Main Street.

Johnny was a 2008 graduate of North Schuylkill High School, where he was a six-year member of the DARE advisory board. He was also a four-year member of the golf team and a member of the National Honor Society.

He was a recipient of the Horatio Alger scholarship of distinguished Americans for college education. Currently he was a sophomore at the University of Colorado at Boulder, majoring in chemical and biological engineering.

He enjoyed acting, cooking and writing, and was a published poet. He was also pursuing his private pilot's license.

It was just over the winter break that he and his friends made the commitment to bicycle cross-country in "The Pink Pedal" to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

John is survived by his parents, John and Joyce, and his two brothers, Jamie Alexander and Jadyn Michael, all of Ringtown. Aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends also survive.
